The Horsehead Nebula, B33 and the Flame Nebula NGC2024 by Clay Kessler

The Horsehead Nebula, B33 and the Flame Nebula NGC2024.

These are a constant challenge and a constant opportunity. My photos of this combination of objects is one way that I gage my progress, or lack of progress, in astrophotography. This is the first try of the season and the 4"f6 represents a substantial increase in image scale. This shot was taken during the Boon Fall 1999 trip and is a 45 minute exposure on Fuji Superia 800 X-tra taken at the prime focus of my 4" f6 refractor. I cut this exposure short by 15 minutes because it was 4:30 in the morning and I was tired but I regret this now. I hope to stack a couple of 1 hour exposures if I get the opportunity to take some later in the year.
