This shot shows the nebulosity around the star Gamma Cygni – the center star in the Northern Cross. The largest of these areas has the vague look of a butterfly or moth so it is informally known as the Butterfly Nebula. Loops and whorls of this nebulosity are scattered throughout the star clouds. This shot was taken with my Canon F1 and 300mm f5.6 lens. This is a one hour exposure on Kodak Ektapress PJ400 film. The camera was mounted on my Losmandy G11 mount and autoguided with my ST4. |
